The "all hands on deck" was set for 8:00 am on Friday, February 19, 2010. At about 8:20, that order became a reality.
So, after a few days in Barbados, the RV Knorr left the Barbados Harbor at 9:00 am.
We have a 3 day transit to our first coring site (near the shelf-slope break off the coast of Amazonia), so there's plenty of time to get things organized and learn the ropes.
Day one brought safety lectures, boat and fire drill, and boat and sea sickness.
It is transit day two now. Most of the sea sickness has subsided (or been tamed by modern medicines . . .), the labs are getting into shape, we're learning how to operate the shipboard instruments and follow WHOI coring protocol, and everyone is getting anxious to get to work. We pass the time talking (lots of science) and eating.
