We woke up this morning to learn that the ship is fighting rather strong currents -- currents that are considerably slowing our speed. As a result, we will arrive at our first coring site tomorrow evening (instead of the hoped for tomorrow early morning). We were, of course, disappointed. The result of the delay is simply another day of waiting and prepping. If we're not ready to work when we get to the first site we'll have no excuses at all!
We're all making the best of the delay: talking about sampling strategies, rethinking our shift schedule (it looks like most off the coring may happen at night), and speculating about what we will find when we start getting data. Still, if I have to make another logging, sample description, or core logging form I think I'll go insane!
The highlight of our day today was a full-on science talk by Cleverson. He gave us an overview of the sedimentology, stratigraphy, and tectonics of our study area -- complete with a large-screen ppt presentation. Thanks Cleverson!
